- Company Overview: Termites are everywhere! Reduce the risk of these serious pests invading your home with these valuable tips.
* Decorative wood chips and mulch may be attractive, but they are also cellulose-containing materials that attract termites. Replace organic mulches, especially those right around the foundation, with an attractive gravel mulch. Replacing an organic mulch next to your foundation can also reduce the number of other crawling pests which invade your home.
*Make sure vents are adequate to air out places where moisture can accumlate. Cut back shrubs and vines that cover the vents less effective.
*Install cement aprons under gutter downspouts to direct water away frmo your foundatoin. This helps keep the soil under and around the foundation drier. Or place large plastic tubes over the ends of the spouts and use them to channel water away.
*Take additional steps to help reduce moisture problems-keep rain gutters clear, repair leaky faucets, and grade the ground so that water drains away from the foundation.
*Make sure no wood touches or nearly touches the ground, because dirt increases the moisture content of the wood and termites can enter the wood unseen.
