The City of Brotherly Love and home of the Liberty Bell is also a hotbed of stink bugs. The bug, which targets a host of plants, including peaches, apples, cherries, soybeans and more, leaves behind dimples, and imperfect fruits, and causes seed loss. Philadelphia exterminators say pesticides have been banned in the area, and as a result, fruit farmers lost their main defense against the smelly, harmful insects. But recently, their hopes have been raised. Pest control services in Philadelphia and nearby Pennsylvania areas say there's a new product that's been approved by the FDA called Dinotefuran. The new insecticide is sanctioned for emergency situations in the states of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, North Carolina and New Jersey. Hopefully, with the new insecticide, farmers can put an end to the bug that’s caused them billions of dollars in fruit damages.
