The ants, which were introduced to the Southern US in the 1930s, can sting and bite, leaving painful bumps and scars. Exterminators in Fort Lauderdale and other Florida regions say that though the ants are just a few millimeters long, they can attack in swarms and be potentially fatal to at-risk, allergic individuals.
