Exterminators in Torrance and across Southern California are looking into the brown widow, a spider recently seen invading homes in the area. Scientifically known as the Latrodectus Geometricus and native to Southern Africa, they have appeared in the Torrance region for the past decade. Torrance pest control services say that while their bite is poisonous, it’s not as dangerous as their black widow cousin’s. The bite, which is painful, is only deadly if a person is allergic or has a pre-existing medical condition. Because the brown widow usually builds its webs near vegetation, people should be especially careful while in their gardens.
