Pest control services in Tucson, Arizona say there’s a major mosquito problem in the area, and the economy has something to do with it. Foreclosed homes with abandoned pools are becoming breeding grounds for the pesky, blood-sucking insect that can carry the West Nile Virus. According to health officials, once the chlorine and acid break down, the pool becomes a ripe breeding area, and thousands upon thousands of the biting bugs begin searching for human flesh. According to Tucson exterminators, in just one week eggs develop into adult mosquitoes. Pima County treated 1,500 abandoned pools last year in an effort to limit mosquito growth.
